ACCESS INFORMATION

Here at Volcano Theatre, we want to make our venue and facilities accessible to all. We occupy an old retail building. We have already made many adaptations to the premises and welcome comments and suggestions on how to make your visit easier and more enjoyable.

Our postcode is SA1 1LG. Main entrance is on High Street. There is no rear public access.

TRANSPORT

Parking
Volcano Theatre is located on the Ground Floor in an old supermarket on a busy High Street. It does not have a car park. If you need to drop off a person immediately outside the venue, please take care not to obstruct the pedestrian crossing.

There are four on-street (3-hour) disabled parking bays approx. 30m from the main entrance on the opposite side of the road adjacent to 227/228 High St (in front of Swansea Food Centre). There is level access and a pedestrian crossing.

There are four additional disabled parking bays further towards the railway station, adjacent to 204 High Street (the old Elysium Hall). This is approx. 150m (level access) from the main entrance.

All other on-street bays on High Street are Loading Only or 1-hour parking.

Orchard Street (to the rear of the building) has some 1- and 2-hour disabled parking bays – however the shortest route from Orchard Street to the main entrance is via King Street, which has an uneven surface and is unsuitable for wheelchairs.

Other parking is available at the Railway Station and Orchard Street multi-storey car parks.
Also Parc Tawe, and Just Park at 12 South Prospect Swansea SA1 2DH, via the steep pedestrianised Kings Lane.

Cycling
You may bring pedal cycles into the building via the main entrance, including tricycles, recumbents and adaptive cycles. Main entrance door clearance is 104cm. Staff will advise on a safe place to store your cycle during your visit. Cycle storage may be limited during very large / busy events.

INSIDE

Wheelchair Access
All public areas of the building are wheelchair accessible. Some installations or promenade performances include stairs or uneven surfaces. Information affecting mobility access will be available on booking.

Wheelchair spaces are available in the main theatre. For small-capacity performances we may contact bookers to verify access needs. We are usually able to arrange alternative or priority seating, or mobile seating for promenade events as required.

Some wheelchair users may require assistance with our front door. The building is staffed during opening hours and staff can view the front door from reception. We are looking into a door-assist system.

Tickets
Disabled people are entitled to discount rate tickets for events. Free tickets are available for carers accompanying a disabled patron.

Accessible Toilets
There is one accessible toilet on the ground floor, near the foyer/event space.

Baby Changing
Unisex / all-gender baby changing facilities are available within the ground floor accessible toilet.

Assistance Dogs
Assistance Dogs are welcome throughout the building.

Resources
Our brochures and all other public information is available digitally or in large print by request.

Audio Description and BSL
Some performances include BSL or audio description. We are working to increase the number of these.

Hearing System
We do not currently have a loop system. We are looking into installing one in the event space and theatre subject to funding.

Relaxed Performances
We aim to offer at lease one relaxed performance of any Volcano production. Visiting artists are encouraged to offer relaxed performances.

Lighting and Special Effects
Some performances feature low light levels and/or special effects. Information is available on booking.
