Saturday Club
Saturdays 10am – 2pm | Ages 8 – 14.
Please note that Saturday Club does not run over the Summer Holidays. See our WHAT’S ON PAGE for holiday activities.
Storyopolis Saturday Club amplifies young people’s voices through multiple genres: Prose, Poetry, Scriptwriting, Drama, Comics, Storyboards, and Illustration. The club provides a safe and encouraging space for young people to develop their creative voices. The weekly sessions under the Storyopolis umbrella will link up with existing regular events – i.e., dance classes, the theatre group held at Volcano Theatre.
There are dedicated writing and creative mentors to develop ideas, narrative, plotting and storytelling techniques. We hope to create a space where young people can come and develop story ideas, write and draw and if they want, just read!
We will also be providing a small library space with books that reflect the Saturday Club’s aims – Developing a Creative Voice. Each week we will be introducing them to Writers, Illustrators, Animators, Musicians and Poets – through show-and-tells, activities and book readings. For more info or to reserve places in the sessions, contact: saturdaystoryclub@volcanotheatre.co.uk
So far, the club has been a resounding success, and a variety of different experiences have been provided.
These have included: Welsh Dragon Posters with Tom Docherty. Abstract self-portraits with Bill Taylor-Beales. Climate slogans and t-shirts with Laura Reynolds. Personal bookmarks with club manager Elissa Evans. Head puppets with Lucy Donald.
We have plenty more lined up, and did we mention it’s all FREE!
