Rhiannon’s grandmother is one of the last residents living on the street, on Pembrokeshire’s seafront. Of the 19 houses there, 15 are holiday homes.

Mam-gu sits by the window in the parlour. The tide is turning. The people disappear.

What does the future hold for the street? What does the future hold for west and north Wales coastal areas? What is the impact of holiday homes on local language and culture? What are the personal difficult decisions involved?

Rhiannon Mair gives voice to some of these issues in a Welsh-language performance. With the help of stones, she will combine multi-layered storytelling through language and body.

The audience is invited to stay for a cuppa and informal chat after the performance.

Become a promoter! Ar Lan y Môr is of special interest to communities affected by second homes/holiday homes/young people leaving the community. The show is available to present in your local community under the Night Out scheme in summer 2023. Night Out helps community groups in Wales stage professional shows in their local areas by removing the financial risk for them. SEE HOW IT WORKS!

Originally created and performed by Rhiannon as part of Volcano’s Solo Duets for the Future series, where it was performed in the The Cupboard at Volcano Theatre. Rhiannon worked with Paul Davies and Sera Moore Williams to adapt the piece specially for Theatr y Maes at the National Eisteddfod in Tregaron in 2022. It will tour to community venues in Wales in 2023 – please get in touch or see the Night Out link if you would like to present the show in your community.

Rhiannon is a freelance practitioner and creative researcher. She has worked with Arad Goch, The Wooster Group, Eddie Ladd and others. Recently, she led Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru’s ‘Pair’ project, which offered twelve artists the opportunity to receive training and take part in workshops to develop research skills, learn invention methods, and develop skills for co-creating. She loves exploring identity, Welshness, place, ritual, and women when creating work. She has worked in many styles but is especially drawn to creating work through devising. Rhiannon has a (Welsh language) PhD which looks at the Welsh Chapel, Community and Performance.

Ar Lan y Môr is  performed in Welsh. It is suitable for Welsh learners at Intermediate level upwards. Notes are provided for non-Welsh speakers and Welsh learners.

Previously performed at the National Eisteddfod of Wales 2022.
