CREATIVE ACTIVITY SESSIONS with ANOUSKA KOMLOSY
TUESDAYS 10:30-12:30
Volcano is now an Arts Award centre! From Easter we will be offering the Arts Award Discover programme for children aged 5 and upwards. These sessions are planned for Tuesday mornings, from 10.30am- 12.30pm. In the run up to the launch, we will be running creative activity sessions with facilitator Anouska Komlosy on Tuesday mornings, from 10.30am -12.30pm starting Tuesday February 24th.
Session details below:
1. Mythical Horses – inspired by Chinese New Year as this year is the year of the fire horse.
Amongst other activities participants will get to make miniature hobby horses, learn about mythical horses from different cultures including Wales, Ancient Greece, China and the Norse and design their own mythical horse / creature.
2. The Winter Forest
At this time of year we can forget that the forest is brimming still with life. We will explore leaf buds and make detailed charcoal drawings. We will also think about the animals of the forest and make drawings of their tracks – participants will be able to take home a spirit animal charm. There will also be other activities on this theme.
3. The Moon
We will make flick books of the phases of the moon. We will explore ways of painting the moon reflected in water. We will think about mythology of the moon and inspired by the Chinese Cheng Er mission (named after the goddess of the moon) and the up-coming Artemis mission from NASA participants will have the opportunity to design and make a model of their own lunar lander.
4. The Ocean
Amongst the ocean themed activities in this session will be wax resist paintings of water and fish. The octopus will be important in this session and we will make some portraits of these extraordinary creatures and use modelling clay to create our own tentacled creatures. We will also have activities that reflect the different habitats of the ocean.
5. Spring and the Easter Hare
We will make chalk pastel drawings of spring bulbs. We will make air dry clay Easter bunnies decorated with beads. There will also be other activities available.
All sessions will encourage free drawing and making and will have drawing and collage materials available.
